Pitkävalkoiset

Pitkävalkoiset, also known as long whitefish, are a species of freshwater fish native to the northern regions of Europe and Asia. They are part of the whitefish family, Coregonidae, and are known for their elongated body shape and silvery-white coloration. Pitkävalkoiset typically grow to a length of 30-50 cm (12-20 inches) and can live up to 15 years.

These fish are anadromous, meaning they spend part of their life cycle in both freshwater and saltwater environments. They migrate to the sea to feed and then return to freshwater to spawn. During their time in the sea, pitkävalkoiset can travel significant distances, sometimes up to 100 kilometers (62 miles), to reach suitable spawning grounds.

Pitkävalkoiset are valued for their culinary qualities, with their firm, white flesh and mild flavor making them a popular choice for fishing and consumption. They are often caught using techniques such as trolling, spinning, or fly fishing. The species is also important ecologically, serving as a food source for various predators, including birds of prey, seals, and other fish species.
