Pistetulokset

Pistetulokset is a Finnish term referring to the numerical results of a competition expressed as points awarded to participants or teams. The word combines piste (point) and tulos (result). It is commonly used in Finnish sports reporting, as well as in quiz contests, academic competitions and other evaluative settings where performance is quantified by points rather than by time or goals.

In practice, pistetulokset are usually presented as a table listing each participant and the total points they earned, sometimes with supplementary information such as rounds, penalties, or tie-break criteria. In leagues and tournaments with a standings system based on accumulated points, pistetulokset determine the ranking and qualification for subsequent rounds or prizes.

While the everyday word for a game result is often tulos or lopullinen tulos, pistetulokset specifically emphasize the points tally. The term is especially common in written reports, official result sheets, and media coverage when the key outcome is the distribution of points rather than the final scoreline alone.

Record-keeping and publication adhere to the competition’s rules; adjustments for disqualifications, appeals, or point deductions are reflected in the pistetulokset.
