Pintaliitettävät

Pintaliitettävät, often translated as surface-mounted devices (SMDs), are electronic components designed to be soldered directly onto the surface of a printed circuit board (PCB). This contrasts with through-hole components, which have leads that are inserted through holes drilled in the PCB and then soldered on the opposite side.

The development of pintaliitettävät began in the 1960s, gaining widespread adoption in the 1980s and 1990s. Their rise was driven by several factors, including the miniaturization of electronic devices and the increasing complexity of circuits. Pintaliitettävät allow for smaller, lighter, and more densely packed electronic products. They also enable automated assembly processes, as pick-and-place machines can efficiently handle and place these components onto PCBs.

Common types of pintaliitettävät include resistors, capacitors, diodes, transistors, and integrated circuits. These components come in a variety of standardized packages, such as the rectangular chip carrier, small outline transistor (SOT), and quad flat package (QFP). The absence of through-hole leads simplifies the PCB design, as fewer holes need to be drilled, which can reduce manufacturing costs and improve signal integrity.
