PineBender

PineBender is a portable woodworking device designed to bend pine lumber into curved components for furniture, cabinetry, and timber framing.

The device integrates a steam chamber, adjustable bending molds, and a compression frame operated by screw clamps or hydraulics.

To operate, pine planks are exposed to steam to soften the lignin, then guided around a form and clamped until the wood dries and holds its new shape.

Interchangeable molds provide a range of radii for arcs and curves, with typical setups supporting radii from roughly 100 mm to 1,000 mm.

PineBender was developed by PineTech Industries, with the first prototype emerging in the early 2010s and a commercial release following within a few years.

The system has found use in hobbyist shops and small-scale workshops, enabling curved components such as chair backs, rails, and decorative arches without laminated bending.

Material compatibility centers on softwoods like Pinus strobus and Pinus radiata, though the device can be used with other bendable species when prepared and seasoned properly.

Limitations include the need for steam equipment, drying time, risk of spring-back if over-bent, and safety concerns around hot water, steam, and pressure.

Variants include the PineBender Mini for smaller projects and the PineBender Pro designed for higher-volume production, with enhancements in mold interchangeability and clamping force.
