Pildihäire

Pildihäire, often translated as visual disturbance or visual snow, is a persistent neurological condition characterized by a constant visual noise or static that affects a person's entire visual field. This visual snow is described as a layer of tiny, flickering dots or snow-like specks superimposed on the visual experience, regardless of the lighting conditions. Individuals with pildihäire typically report that this visual snow is present both in light and darkness, though it may be more noticeable in low light.

Beyond the visual snow itself, sufferers may also experience a range of other visual symptoms. These can include persistent afterimages, entoptic phenomena such as floaters or flashes of light, photophobia (increased sensitivity to light), and difficulty with night vision. Some individuals may also report palinopsia, which is the visual disturbance of seeing images or patterns persist after the stimulus has been removed. The exact cause of pildihäire is not fully understood, but it is believed to be related to abnormal neural activity in the visual cortex or other parts of the brain involved in visual processing. It is not a disease in itself but rather a symptom that can sometimes be associated with other underlying conditions, though it can also occur in otherwise healthy individuals. Diagnosis is typically based on a thorough medical history and a comprehensive eye examination, often ruling out other potential causes of visual disturbances. There is currently no specific cure for pildihäire, and treatment focuses on managing symptoms and improving quality of life.
