Pikselë

Pikselë is the Albanian plural form of piksel, referring to the smallest addressable unit of a digital image or display. In computer graphics and digital imaging, a piksel is a picture element that encodes color and brightness for a single point in a raster grid. On modern screens, each piksel is typically composed of subpixels—red, green, and blue—whose light output combines to form the visible color.

Origin and usage: The term pixel is a portmanteau of picture element and was coined in the 1960s. Albanian speakers have adopted this term, using piksel as the singular and pikselë for the plural. The plural form pikselë follows standard Albanian pluralization with the suffix -ë, and is used when referring to more than one image element.

Technical context: Image resolution is expressed as width by height in pikselë (for example, 1920 × 1080 pikselë). Pixel density, measured in pixels per inch (ppi), describes how many pikselë fit in a physical inch on a display. Color depth indicates how many bits are used to represent the color of each piksel, with common formats ranging from 8 to 24 bits per piksel. In rendering, vector information is rasterized into a grid of pikselë, enabling fixed-point, grid-based representations of images.
