Piezoelementtejä

Piezoelementti refers to a device that exhibits the piezoelectric effect. The piezoelectric effect is a property of certain materials to generate an electric charge when subjected to mechanical stress, or conversely, to deform mechanically when an electric field is applied. These materials can be natural crystals like quartz, or synthetic ceramics such as lead zirconate titanate (PZT).

Piezoelements are utilized in a wide range of applications due to their ability to convert between mechanical and electrical energy. In sensors, they detect pressure, acceleration, or vibration by measuring the electrical charge produced by the applied force. This makes them crucial components in microphones, accelerometers, and pressure sensors.

In actuators, piezoelements convert electrical energy into precise mechanical motion. When a voltage is applied, the material expands or contracts, enabling applications like inkjet printer heads, ultrasonic transducers for medical imaging and cleaning, and micro-positioning systems. They are also found in lighters, where a hammer strikes a piezo element to generate a spark, and in buzzers and speakers to produce sound waves. The functionality of a piezoelement relies on the inherent asymmetry of its crystal structure, which allows for the separation of positive and negative charges when deformed.
