Phasenklasse
Phasenklasse is a term used in German-language texts to describe a category or class of phases within a system. It does not have a single standardized definition across all disciplines; rather, its exact meaning depends on the context. Broadly, a Phasenklasse groups phases that share defining properties, such as thermodynamic state, crystal structure, or chemical composition.
In chemistry and materials science, Phasenklassen are often used to refer to the set of distinct phases
In geology and mineralogy, the concept applies to phase assemblages formed under specific pressure–temperature conditions. A
In physics, particularly in thermodynamics and statistical mechanics, the term may appear when addressing phase transitions
Examples are often pragmatic rather than canonical. In iron–carbon alloys, ferrite and austenite are distinct solid
