Pfahlbauten
Pfahlbauten, also known as stilt houses or pile dwellings, are ancient structures built on stilts over water or on marshy ground. These settlements were common in prehistoric Europe, particularly during the Neolithic and Bronze Ages. The earliest known examples date back to around 5000 BC. The primary reason for their construction was to protect inhabitants from floods and predators. The elevated platforms provided a degree of safety and kept living spaces dry.
