Perusajan
Perusajan is a term used in Finnish technical language to denote the fundamental or base time of a repeating process. In mathematical terms, it is the smallest positive time interval T for which a periodic signal x(t) satisfies x(t + T) = x(t) for all t. The perusajan is therefore closely linked to the fundamental frequency f0, since f0 = 1/T, and it establishes the basic time scale of the phenomenon being studied.
Applications and context: The concept appears in fields such as signal processing, acoustics, vibrations, and metrology.
Examples: A sinusoidal tone with frequency 440 Hz has a perusajan of approximately 1/440 seconds, i.e., about
Terminology and usage: In Finnish, perusajan is often discussed together with related terms such as perusjakso
Limitations: For aperiodic or quasi-periodic signals, a single fixed perusajan may not exist; in such cases,
