Pellityksissä is a Finnish term that translates to "tinning" or "sheet metal work" in English. It refers to the process of covering surfaces, typically metal, with a thin layer of tin. This practice has historically been employed for a variety of purposes, primarily for protection and aesthetic enhancement.

One of the most common applications of pellityksissä was in the preservation of food. Tinned cans, for instance, were made by coating iron or steel with tin. The tin layer acted as a barrier, preventing the underlying metal from reacting with the food and causing corrosion or imparting an undesirable flavor.
