Pelletti, or wood pellet, is a type of biofuel. It is made from compressed organic matter, most commonly wood waste. This waste can include sawdust, wood chips, and shavings. The manufacturing process involves grinding the raw material into small particles, then compressing it under high pressure and temperature. This extrusion process binds the material together without the need for artificial binders. The resulting pellets are typically cylindrical, with a diameter of about 6-10 millimeters and a length of 10-30 millimeters.

Pellets are primarily used for heating. They can be burned in specialized wood pellet stoves and boilers, which are designed to automatically feed pellets from a storage hopper into the combustion chamber. This automated feeding system allows for a more controlled and efficient burn compared to traditional wood burning. Pellets offer several advantages, including a high energy density, low moisture content, and consistent size and shape, which facilitates automated handling and burning. They are also considered a renewable energy source, as the wood used is often a byproduct of other industries, thus reducing waste. Their combustion produces relatively low emissions of carbon dioxide and other pollutants when compared to fossil fuels.
