Pelastuslaki

Pelastuslaki is the Finnish act that provides the legal framework for rescue services and civil protection in Finland. It defines the tasks, organization, and funding of rescue activities to prevent emergencies and ensure effective response to fires, accidents, and other threats.

The law assigns responsibility primarily to municipalities and regional rescue departments (pelastuslaitokset) and outlines how rescue services are planned, delivered, and supervised. It covers prevention, preparedness, and response, including coordination with health services and other authorities as needed.

Key obligations include risk assessment, preparedness planning, training, and maintenance of equipment. Authorities must also implement fire safety inspections, safety guidance for the public, and procedures for major incidents and mutual aid across administrative boundaries.
