Pedagógusképzés

Pedagógusképzés, or teacher education, refers to the academic and practical preparation of individuals who intend to become teachers. In many countries it comprises both pre-service programs for future teachers and in-service or continuing professional development for current educators. The objective is to equip teachers with knowledge of subject content, pedagogy, assessment, and classroom management, and to foster professional judgment and ethical practice.

Pre-service programs typically combine university coursework in educational theory, pedagogy, psychology, and subject matter with supervised teaching practice in schools. Students complete teacher practicums or student-teaching placements, engage in micro-teaching, and learn about inclusive education, differentiation, assessment literacy, and classroom technology. The curriculum emphasizes translating theory into practice, reflective practice, and collaboration with schools.

In-service teacher development includes workshops, mentoring, further degrees, and professional learning communities. Programs are often guided by national or regional standards and licensing requirements. Quality assurance may involve accreditation bodies, program reviews, and performance assessments of graduates.

The field is shaped by policy context, educational goals, and research on effective teaching. Debates focus on practitioner autonomy vs accountability, the balance of theory and practice, the role of university partners, and how to support teachers working with diverse learners, including multilingual, special education, and socio-economically disadvantaged students. The aim is to sustain high-quality instruction and adapt to evolving curricula and technologies.
