In the fictional setting, Pauliin is a rare silicate-oxide mineral notable for a distinctive blue iridescence and high refractive index, making it recognizable in mineral collections within the narrative world.

The name Pauliin is derived from the surname of a fictional 22nd‑century mineralogist, Dr. Pauliin Ardent, who is credited with first documenting the mineral in the lore. The term is used both as the mineral's name and as a designation for a family of closely related compounds within the setting.

In the lore, Pauliin crystallizes in the trigonal-hexagonal system, typically forming prismatic crystals up to several centimeters in length. Reported physical properties include Mohs hardness around 6.5–7, a measured density of 3.2–3.6 g/cm3, and an index of refraction near 1.62. Under ultraviolet light it may exhibit pale blue fluorescence.
