Pastafarianism

Pastafarianism, or the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster (FSM), is a satirical religion founded by Bobby Henderson in 2005. Henderson created the religion in response to a decision by the Kansas State Board of Education to teach intelligent design alongside evolution in public school science classes. Pastafarianism parodies theistic religion by proposing that the Flying Spaghetti Monster is the creator of the universe. Its tenets and beliefs are intentionally absurd and often mirror those of traditional religions in a humorous way.

The core beliefs of Pastafarianism include the creation of the universe by the Flying Spaghetti Monster after drinking heavily. Followers, known as Pastafarians, believe in an afterlife that includes a beer volcano and a stripper factory. Pirates are considered original Pastafarians, and their decreasing numbers are blamed for global warming. The religion advocates for holidays on Tuesdays and Fridays, and its sacred texts are often presented as parodies of religious scriptures.

Pastafarianism is largely considered an atheist or agnostic movement, using humor and satire to critique religious dogma and the concept of faith. It has gained a following worldwide, with many adherents participating in public demonstrations and advocating for the separation of church and state. In some countries, Pastafarianism has been recognized as a religion, allowing adherents to obtain legal documentation reflecting their beliefs, such as marriage certificates or driver's licenses. The movement emphasizes critical thinking and a rejection of religious extremism.
