Partnerplanken

Partnerplanken is a term used in Dutch-speaking carpentry and design contexts to describe a paired-plank system that enables modular interconnection of wooden elements. The concept centers on two parallel boards that function together as a connector unit, allowing adjacent modules such as panels, benches, or partitions to be joined, reconfigured, or removed with relative ease.

In practice, partnerplanken may employ a variety of joining methods. Common approaches include tongue-and-groove or spline joints, dowel pins, bolt-through connections, or metal brackets that secure the paired planks to counterpart components. The system is designed to transfer loads between modules and to provide stable alignment while remaining demountable for transport or reassembly. Variations exist in materials (softwood, hardwood, or engineered wood) and in aesthetics, such as exposed joinery or concealed fasteners.

Applications of partnerplanken span modular furniture, event and exhibition staging, temporary walls, and outdoor installations. They are valued for quick assembly, reusability, and the ability to reconfigure layouts to suit evolving needs.
