Parkminster

Parkminster is a town and civil parish in the county of Northmere, located along the River Alder. It centers on a preserved medieval market square and a parish church dating from the 12th century, with a mix of traditional stone streets and newer housing. Surrounding countryside blends arable fields, woodlands, and small farms, while the town supports retail and light industry.

Parkminster grew from a medieval market settlement and a small priory established in the 12th century. The arrival of the railway in the 19th century spurred suburban growth, and postwar housing expanded the town further. In recent decades, development has focused on sustainability and heritage.

The town is governed by Parkminster Parish Council, with responsibilities for parks, amenities, and planning comments. It lies within Northmere District and is represented on the regional council.

The high street hosts independent shops, a market hall, and service businesses. Local employment also comes from logistics, education, and light manufacturing in nearby estates. Parkminster is a commuter base for workers traveling by rail. It is connected by buses and by the A roads that pass nearby.

Two primary schools serve Parkminster, along with a secondary college. The town hosts an annual Summer Market and maintains parks, including Parkminster Green.
