Parametriska

Parametriska is a term used in Swedish-language technical and academic contexts to describe methods, models, and representations that are defined or driven by parameters. As an adjective it means “parametric,” and as a noun it can refer to a family of parameter-driven approaches across disciplines. The concept is not tied to a single field but spans mathematics, computer science, engineering, and design.

In mathematics and computer science, parametric representations describe objects by one or more parameters. A curve can be given by x = f(t), y = g(t); a surface by X = F(u,v), Y = G(u,v), Z = H(u,v). Parametriska approaches emphasize how changing parameters transforms the object, enabling flexible modeling, interpolation, and animation. In design and CAD, parametric design uses constraints and relations so edits to a parameter propagate automatically through the model.

Parametriska methods are used in parametric modeling, architecture, product design, physics simulations, statistics with parameterized distributions, and data visualization. They support optimization, where objective functions depend on parameters, and sensitivity analysis, helping understand how variations affect outcomes.

Common tools include CAD systems with parametric features, scripting languages for parameterization, and libraries for parametric statistics or geometry. A key distinction is between parametric methods, which rely on a defined parameterization, and non-parametric methods that do not assume a fixed form.
