Papierkalenders

Papierkalenders, also known as paper calendars or cartridge calendars, are a type of calendar found commonly in the Netherlands and other European countries. The name "Papierkalender" literally translates to "paper calendar" in Dutch.

Traditionally, Papierkalenders are designed in the form of a large sheet of paper, typically with a landscape orientation, and folded into 12 pages, each representing a month. The calendar usually starts in September, allowing the user to adjust their mental calendar to keep a level of consistency throughout the year. The format is a deliberate choice to fit the traditional Dutch calendar, which places January at the beginning of the year.

Papierkalenders contain Gregorian-style calendars, Along with details such as birthdays, holidays, and moon phases. Some also feature images or illustrations of Dutch culture, nature, and art. The content of the calendar changes each year, allowing users to find a new and interesting design. Papierkalenders are popular with broad audiences, particularly the elderly, due to their nostalgic value and a sense of tradition.

Spreads, or pages, often feature notations on laws, tax deadlines and critical weeks throughout the year. Having the specifics of appointments and main events broad daylight, is implicitly regarded for attention. Printed in runs of thousands of copies, Papierkalenders contain a shared-tradition heritage for Dutch people that may link unholy personal story.
