Pangyo

Pangyo is a neighborhood and business district in Seongnam City, located in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea. It lies in the southern part of the Bundang area and forms part of the Seoul Capital Area. The district has grown from agricultural roots into a modern mixed-use area that combines residential, retail, and office developments.

Historically, Pangyo expanded as part of the Bundang New Town development beginning in the late 1990s and early 2000s. The plan aimed to alleviate housing demand around Seoul while creating a satellite urban center with well-planned infrastructure. In the 2010s, Pangyo became increasingly associated with high-tech industry and entrepreneurship as part of a broader push to create technology-focused districts in the Seoul metropolitan region.

Pangyo is best known for Pangyo Tech Valley, a technology and startup hub that concentrates IT, software, and biotechnology companies, research facilities, and venture capital activity. The district hosts numerous office towers, incubators, and supportive services intended to foster collaboration among industry, academia, and government. This ecosystem has attracted investment and talent from across South Korea and beyond, contributing to the area’s economic profile.

Transportation in Pangyo centers on Pangyo Station, a rapid transit stop on the Shinbundang Line, which provides fast access to Gangnam and other parts of Seoul. The district is also connected by major roads and expressways, with commercial and residential amenities designed to serve both residents and the growing workforce in the tech valley.
