Palmuplantaatioiden, often translated as palm oil plantations, are areas of land cultivated for the commercial production of palm oil. This oil is extracted from the fruit of oil palm trees, scientifically known as Elaeis guineensis. These plantations are a significant global agricultural industry, with major cultivation occurring in Southeast Asia, particularly Indonesia and Malaysia, but also increasingly in Africa and Latin America.
