Palettengrößen, also known as pallet sizes, refer to the standardized dimensions of load carriers, most commonly wooden or plastic platforms, used for transporting and storing goods. These dimensions are crucial for efficient logistics and handling. The most prevalent pallet size globally is the EUR-pallet (also known as an Euro-pallet or EPAL-pallet), measuring 800 x 1200 millimeters. This size is widely used across Europe and is designed to fit standard truck trailers and containers.

Another common size, particularly in North America, is the GMA pallet, measuring 40 x 48 inches (approximately 1016 x 1219 millimeters). This size is prevalent in the grocery industry and other retail sectors. Beyond these dominant sizes, various other regional and industry-specific pallet dimensions exist. For instance, the ISO M2 pallet measures 1000 x 1200 millimeters, and the FIN-pallet, used in Finland, is 1000 x 1200 millimeters.

The selection of a specific pallet size is influenced by factors such as the type of goods being transported, the mode of transport, storage requirements, and the specific regulations or standards of the destination region. Standardized pallet sizes facilitate intermodal transport, allowing goods to be transferred between different modes of transportation (e.g., truck, rail, ship, air) without the need for repacking. This universality contributes to streamlined supply chains and reduced handling costs. The consistent dimensions also enable automated handling systems in warehouses and distribution centers.
