Paletcontrole

Paletcontrole is the process of inspecting and verifying pallets used in the transport and storage of goods to ensure they are safe, sanitary, and fit for purpose. It is an aspect of pallet management in logistics and manufacturing, aimed at reducing product damage, injuries, and downtime caused by defective pallets.

The inspection usually combines visual checks and measurements. Inspectors look for structural damage such as cracks, splits, broken rails, warped or loose boards, and protruding nails. They verify dimensions and flatness, ensure correct stacking and load-bearing capacity, and check marks or certifications indicating compliance with standards (for example designations associated with common pallet systems) and, where applicable, treatment marks. In some contexts pallets are cleaned or sanitized, repaired, or, if beyond salvage, disposed of or recycled. Reusable pallets may be repaired to bring them back into specification and re-enter service.

Paletcontrole is tied to industry standards and regional regulations governing pallets. Common references include standardized pallet formats such as EUR EPAL pallets and, for international shipments, ISPM 15 wood packaging regulations. Some programs use barcode or RFID tracing to document pallet provenance and condition. The results of pallet control feed back into supply chain decisions, influencing pallet procurement, refurbishment, and carrier qualifications.
