Paketschrank

A Paketschrank, also known as a parcel locker or package locker, is a secure, automated self-service kiosk designed for the delivery and pickup of parcels. These systems are typically installed in public or semi-public locations such as shopping centers, train stations, apartment buildings, and post offices. The primary purpose of a Paketschrank is to provide a convenient and secure alternative to traditional home or office delivery, especially for situations where recipients may not be home during delivery hours or for businesses handling a high volume of packages.

Paketschrank systems operate through a network of secure compartments of various sizes. When a parcel is delivered to the locker, the courier places it into an available compartment and the system digitally records the delivery. The recipient is then notified, usually via SMS or email, with a unique access code or QR code. Upon arrival at the Paketschrank, the recipient enters their code, and the corresponding compartment door unlocks, allowing them to retrieve their package. This process ensures that packages are not left unattended, reducing the risk of theft or damage. Many systems also allow for returns to be deposited in a similar manner.
