Painotekniikoissa

Painotekniikoissa refers to printing techniques in Finnish. This broad term encompasses a variety of methods used to transfer ink or toner onto a surface, most commonly paper, to create images or text. The fundamental principle behind most printing techniques involves applying a colored substance to a substrate in a controlled manner.

Different printing techniques are categorized based on how the image is transferred. Relief printing, such as woodcut or letterpress, involves raising the image area so that it receives ink and transfers it to the paper. Intaglio printing, like engraving or etching, works in reverse, where the image is incised into a plate, ink is applied, and then wiped off the surface, leaving ink only in the grooves to be transferred. Planographic printing, such as offset lithography, relies on the principle that oil and water repel each other. The image and non-image areas are on the same plane, with the image area being oil-receptive and the non-image area water-receptive. Screen printing utilizes a stencil to allow ink to pass through a mesh onto the substrate. Digital printing, including inkjet and laser printing, directly applies ink or toner to the substrate without the need for a printing plate. Each technique has its own advantages and disadvantages in terms of cost, speed, quality, and suitability for different applications.
