Submarines, by contrast, must withstand immense external water pressure and maintain an internal pressure suitable for their occupants. This involves sophisticated systems to manage pressure, oxygen levels, and remove carbon dioxide.

Industrial settings also utilize pressurization. For example, hyperbaric chambers are used for medical treatments, where patients are exposed to higher than normal atmospheric pressure to aid in healing. In some manufacturing processes, controlled pressure environments are necessary to prevent contamination or to facilitate specific chemical reactions.
