PERT diagrammeja, or PERT charts, are project management tools used to plan and schedule complex projects. PERT stands for Program Evaluation and Review Technique. These diagrams visually represent the tasks involved in a project, their dependencies, and the estimated time to complete each task.

A PERT chart is a network diagram that shows the sequence of operations to be performed. It typically consists of nodes representing events or milestones and arrows representing the activities or tasks that connect these events. The length of the arrows does not represent duration, but the flow of work.

Key elements of a PERT chart include:

Events: These are points in time that mark the beginning or end of an activity. They are usually represented by circles or nodes.

Activities: These are the tasks or operations that need to be performed to move from one event to another. They are represented by arrows.

Dependencies: The chart illustrates the order in which activities must be performed, showing which tasks must be completed before others can begin.

Critical Path: PERT analysis often identifies the critical path, which is the sequence of activities that determines the shortest possible project duration. Any delay on the critical path will directly delay the entire project.

PERT charts are particularly useful for projects with uncertain task durations. They employ a three-point estimation method (optimistic, pessimistic, and most likely time) to calculate an expected duration for each activity, which helps in better risk assessment and schedule management. This technique allows project managers to identify potential bottlenecks and allocate resources more effectively to ensure timely project completion.
