Overenskomstlov

Overenskomstlov is a Danish term that translates to "collective agreement law." It refers to the legal framework governing collective bargaining and collective agreements in Denmark. These agreements are central to the Danish labor market model, often referred to as the "Danish model."

The Overenskomstlov is not a single, overarching statute but rather a complex system of laws, court decisions, and unwritten customs. Key legislation includes the Labour Court Act and the Act on Trade Unions and Employers' Associations. The system is characterized by a high degree of self-regulation, where employers' organizations and trade unions negotiate and administer most labor market rules directly.

Collective agreements, or "overenskomster," are contracts between employers or employers' organizations and trade unions. They cover a wide range of terms and conditions of employment, including wages, working hours, holidays, and pensions. These agreements are legally binding and are enforced through a specialized labor court system. The Overenskomstlov ensures that these agreements are respected and provides mechanisms for resolving disputes.
