Oszcillációkat, commonly referred to as oscillations, describes a repetitive variation, typically in time, of some measure about a central value or equilibrium. This variation is often characterized by its periodic nature, meaning it repeats at regular intervals. The simplest form of oscillation is simple harmonic motion, observed in systems like a pendulum swinging back and forth or a mass attached to a spring. In these cases, the restoring force is directly proportional to the displacement from the equilibrium position.

The key properties of an oscillation include its amplitude, which is the maximum displacement from the equilibrium position, and its period, the time it takes for one complete cycle of motion. The frequency, conversely, is the number of oscillations that occur per unit of time, and is the reciprocal of the period. Oscillations can be found in numerous phenomena across science and engineering. Examples include the vibrations of a tuning fork, the alternating current in electrical circuits, the wave-like propagation of light and sound, and even the rhythmic beating of a heart.

Beyond simple harmonic motion, more complex oscillations can arise. Damped oscillations occur when energy is gradually lost from the oscillating system, causing the amplitude to decrease over time. Forced oscillations happen when an external periodic force is applied to the system, which can lead to resonance if the driving frequency matches the natural frequency of the system, resulting in a significant increase in amplitude. Understanding oscillations is fundamental to many areas of physics, engineering, and even biology.
