Osakans

Osakans are residents of Osaka, a major city and prefecture in the Kansai region of Japan. The term covers people living in Osaka City as well as those from Osaka Prefecture, and in English is commonly rendered as Osakans. The city anchors the Keihanshin metropolitan area, one of Japan’s largest urban regions.

Demographically, Osaka City has around 2.7 million residents, while Osaka Prefecture totals about 8.8 million. The population is diverse, reflecting generations of inward migration and international exchange driven by Osaka’s long-standing role as a commercial hub. Osaka has historically been a major gateway for goods and culture in western Japan, contributing to a dense urban and economic landscape.
