Ortodoksja

Ortodoksja, often translated as Orthodoxy, refers to a set of beliefs or practices that are considered correct, traditional, or sound, especially within a religious context. The term originates from the Greek words "orthos" meaning "right" or "correct" and "doxa" meaning "opinion" or "belief." Consequently, it signifies adherence to established doctrines and teachings.

In Christianity, Orthodox Christianity, particularly Eastern Orthodoxy, is a major branch that emphasizes adherence to ancient traditions, the teachings of the early Church Fathers, and the decisions of the ecumenical councils. This tradition is characterized by its rich liturgical life, iconography, and a hierarchical structure. The Orthodox Church sees itself as the original, unbroken continuation of the Christian faith established by Jesus Christ and his apostles.

Beyond its specific religious application, the concept of ortodoksja can be applied more broadly. It can describe adherence to a particular ideology, political viewpoint, or even a scientific theory that is widely accepted and considered standard within a given field. In this sense, it implies a rejection of deviation from established norms and a commitment to maintaining the integrity of core principles. The opposite of ortodoksja would generally be considered heresy, heterodoxy, or revisionism, depending on the context.
