Ortodoksisia

Ortodoksisia is the Finnish plural partitive form of the adjective ortodoksinen, meaning “orthodox.” The root comes from Greek words meaning straight/right belief, and in Finnish it is used to describe things connected with orthodox doctrine or practice. The term can function in both religious and secular contexts.

In religious usage, ortodoksinen most often refers to Orthodox Christianity, a major branch of Christianity that developed from the early church and separated from Roman Catholicism in the Great Schism of 1054. The Orthodox churches are a family of self-governing bodies united by common doctrine, liturgy, and sacramental life. Shared characteristics typically include the veneration of icons, a conciliar approach to church governance, seven sacraments, and the Divine Liturgy, especially the Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom.
