Oppilaitostason

Oppilaitostason, also known as the Finnish Education System, is a comprehensive and structured framework designed to provide education to students from preschool through to higher education. The system is organized into several levels, each with its own distinct goals and curriculum.

Preschool education, known as varhaiskasvatus, focuses on the social, emotional, and cognitive development of children aged 1-6. It is typically provided in daycare centers or at home by a qualified caregiver.

Compulsory education, or perusopetus, begins at the age of 7 and lasts until the student is 16. This phase is divided into two main stages: basic education (7-9 years) and upper secondary education (10-16 years). The curriculum includes subjects such as Finnish, mathematics, science, social studies, and languages.

Vocational education and training, or ammatillinen koulutus, is available for students aged 16-19. This program combines theoretical learning with practical training, preparing students for specific careers.

Upper secondary education, or yläkoulu, is available for students aged 16-19 who wish to pursue academic studies. This phase includes a variety of subjects and prepares students for university or other higher education programs.

Higher education, or korkeakoulutus, includes universities, universities of applied sciences, and other institutions of higher learning. These institutions offer a wide range of degree programs, from bachelor's to doctoral levels.

The Finnish Education System places a strong emphasis on equality, inclusivity, and lifelong learning. It is funded through a combination of public and private sources, with the goal of providing quality education to all students, regardless of their background or circumstances. The system is overseen by the Ministry of Education and Culture, which is responsible for developing policies, setting standards, and ensuring the quality of education throughout the country.
