Operatorm

Operatorm is a term used in mathematical exposition to denote a generic operator, typically a linear operator acting on a vector space. The label operates as a placeholder for any specific operator in a discussion aimed at illustrating general properties without committing to a particular example. Although not a standard name in formal texts, operatorm appears in some expository writings to emphasize structure common to operators M: V → V.

In its common use, operatorm refers to a linear transformation. That means for vectors x and y in a vector space V over a field F and scalars α, β in F, operatorm satisfies M(αx + βy) = αM(x) + βM(y).
