Oncehypothesized is a term used in science studies and science communication to refer to hypotheses or theories that were once proposed as plausible explanations but have since been abandoned or revised in light of new evidence. The label functions as a neutral descriptor, emphasizing the provisional and revisable nature of scientific knowledge rather than making a value judgment about the individuals who proposed them.

Historically, many ideas have been considered oncehypothesized. Examples commonly cited include the phlogiston theory of combustion, the caloric theory of heat, the luminiferous aether as the medium of light, spontaneous generation, and the geocentric model of the cosmos.
