Olajtömítések, often referred to as oil seals or shaft seals, are crucial components in mechanical systems designed to prevent leakage of lubricating fluids. The primary function of an oil seal is to maintain the integrity of a lubrication system, ensuring that moving parts are adequately lubricated and protected from abrasive foreign matter.

The construction of an oil seal usually involves a flexible sealing element, most commonly made of synthetic rubber like nitrile, Viton, or silicone, which encircles a metal casing. This metal casing provides structural support and allows for easy installation into a housing or bore. The sealing lip of the rubber element is designed to maintain constant contact with the rotating shaft, creating a dynamic seal. Some designs incorporate a garter spring behind the sealing lip to ensure consistent and adequate sealing pressure, even as the seal wears or the shaft experiences minor runout.
