Offlineskydd refers to security measures implemented to protect data or systems when they are not actively connected to a network, particularly the internet. This concept is crucial in safeguarding against remote attacks, malware propagation, and unauthorized access that often rely on network connectivity.

The primary goal of offlineskydd is to create an isolated environment where sensitive information or critical systems can remain secure. This can involve physically disconnecting devices from any network, a practice sometimes referred to as "air gapping." Air gapped systems are considered highly secure as they are inherently inaccessible from external networks.

Examples of offlineskydd include storing backups on external hard drives that are not permanently connected, using dedicated offline computers for highly sensitive operations, or employing physical security measures like locked rooms for servers. The principle extends to personal security as well, where individuals might disconnect their devices from Wi-Fi or cellular networks when handling confidential information.

While offering robust security, offlineskydd can also present challenges. Data transfer to and from offline systems requires manual intervention, which can be time-consuming and introduce the risk of human error. Furthermore, even offline systems are not entirely immune to threats; physical theft or the introduction of malware via infected portable media remain potential vulnerabilities.
