In employment, office-based work refers to tasks performed at a centralized workplace, typically a company office. It contrasts with remote, hybrid, or field-based arrangements and often implies access to standard office infrastructure, supervision, and a conventional daytime schedule.

In healthcare, an office-based practice denotes clinical care delivered in a physician's or clinician's office, clinic, or outpatient facility rather than in a hospital ward or emergency department. Office-based services can include consultations, preventive care, minor procedures, and follow-up visits, depending on local regulations and the practitioner's specialty.

Advantages of an office-based setup include easier coordination with colleagues, access to on-site resources and administrative support, and a structured work environment. Challenges may include commuting time, less flexibility, distractions, and data protection or privacy considerations in shared spaces.

Usage and regional variation: The term is common in business, information technology, finance, and administrative sectors, as well as in medicine and allied health to distinguish outpatient practice from hospital-based care. Many organizations use hybrid models that combine office-based work with remote elements.
