Obstruktiopäivänä, a Finnish term roughly translating to "Obstruction Day," refers to a historical period and a specific type of protest that occurred in Finland, particularly during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This period was characterized by political tension between the Finnish Parliament and the Russian Empire, which controlled Finland as an autonomous Grand Duchy.

Obstruktiopäivänä was a tactic employed by Finnish parliamentarians to resist what they perceived as Russian encroachments on Finnish autonomy. When the Finnish Parliament, or Diet, was convened by the Russian authorities, often with agendas dictated or influenced by St. Petersburg, Finnish representatives would engage in deliberate obstruction. This obstruction manifested in various ways, including excessively long speeches, raising points of order, proposing numerous amendments, and generally stalling parliamentary proceedings. The goal was to prevent the passage of legislation that would undermine Finland's constitutional rights and self-governance.

The most intense period of obstruktion involved the "years of oppression" (sortovuodet) under Russian rule. Finnish parliamentarians, facing increasing pressure from the Tsarist regime, used obstruktion as a non-violent means to express their defiance and to highlight the illegitimacy of Russian decrees within the Finnish legal framework. While frustrating for the Russian administration and sometimes for the Finnish public, obstruktion was seen by its proponents as a necessary defense of Finnish law and constitution against external pressures. The effectiveness of this tactic is debated, but it remains a notable part of Finnish parliamentary history and the struggle for national autonomy.
