Oberputzes

Oberputzes is a rural municipality in Valoria, a fictional European country, located in the North Valoran Highlands. The municipality covers about 28 square kilometers and sits at an elevation of roughly 420 meters. The Oberfluss river runs through the outskirts, with a landscape of small farms, pasture, and patches of pine forest. The climate is temperate, with warm summers and cold winters, supporting a mix of agriculture and forestry.

The earliest written reference to Oberputzes dates to the late 13th century, connected to a local manor and a parish church. It developed slowly through the medieval and early modern periods, with growth accelerating in the 19th century after the introduction of a regional rail line that linked farmers and craftspeople to larger markets. The town preserved much of its historic core, even as new housing and small workshops appeared.

As of the early 2020s, Oberputzes had about 2,700 residents. The local economy relies on dairy farming, crop production, and small manufacturing. A weekly market serves adjacent villages, and a cooperative mill supports local grain processing. Tourism has grown modestly, driven by hiking routes in the surrounding highlands and the well-preserved timber-framed town center.

Cultural life centers on the historic town core, including St. Martin’s Church, dating from the 14th century with later renovations, and the Oberputzes Museum of Rural Life. Annual events include a harvest festival in autumn and a Christmas market in winter. The town maintains a primary school, a public library, and a volunteer fire department, with local governance provided by a small elected council. Notable residents are limited to local figures known within Valorian folklore.
