Oattes

Oattes is a small town in the central lowlands of the fictional region of Eldoria. Located along the Oat River, it developed around agricultural settlements and is named for its historical association with oat cultivation. The town had an estimated population of 3,200 as of 2020.

Geography and economy: The surrounding countryside is characterized by gentle farmland and hedgerows. The local economy is anchored in agriculture—especially oats, barley, and dairy—as well as small-scale manufacturing, food processing, and retail services that serve the surrounding rural area.

History: Oattes originated in the 17th century as a riverside crossing and market town. A market charter was granted in 1720, and the arrival of a regional railway in the 19th century spurred growth. The town conserved several historic buildings, including a windmill converted into a museum.

Governance and facilities: Oattes is governed by a mayor and town council. Municipal services include a public library, a secondary school, a health clinic, and road and rail connections to larger regional centers. The town maintains a market hall and a community center used for events and meetings.

Culture and community: The annual Harvest Festival celebrates agricultural heritage and features local crafts, music, and a farmers' market. The nearby Oat River and surrounding parks provide recreational opportunities, while the Windmill Museum preserves the town's history.
