Nätverksteknologier refers to the methods and systems used to connect computers and other devices, enabling them to communicate and share resources. This encompasses a wide range of technologies, from the physical cables and wireless signals that transmit data to the protocols that govern how that data is formatted and exchanged.

At a fundamental level, networks are built using various types of hardware, including routers, switches, modems, and network interface cards. These components facilitate the establishment of connections, whether they are wired, using Ethernet cables, or wireless, employing technologies like Wi-Fi. The physical medium, such as copper wire, fiber optic cable, or radio waves, determines the speed and range of the network.

Beyond the physical infrastructure, network technologies rely on a set of rules, known as protocols, to ensure orderly communication. Key protocols include TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol), which forms the backbone of the internet, and HTTP (Hypertext Transfer Protocol) for web browsing. These protocols define how data packets are addressed, transmitted, received, and reassembled, ensuring data integrity and efficient delivery.

Different types of networks exist based on their scale and purpose. Local Area Networks (LANs) connect devices within a limited area like a home or office, while Wide Area Networks (WANs) span larger geographical regions, with the internet being the most prominent example. Metropolitan Area Networks (MANs) fall somewhere in between, covering a city. Network technologies are constantly evolving, driven by the demand for higher speeds, greater reliability, and enhanced security to support an ever-increasing volume of digital information and interconnected devices.
