Námsmaður

Námsmaður is a person who is enrolled in an apprenticeship program, combining on-the-job training with classroom instruction in a trade or profession. In Icelandic usage, the term refers to someone learning a skilled trade under the supervision of experienced workers, typically under a formal agreement between the learner, the employer, and a training provider. The apprenticeship path typically lasts several years, with progression through defined stages and competencies. Throughout the program, the námsmaður performs tasks appropriate to their level, receives mentoring, and attends relevant courses.
