Nyloninläggsmuttrar, also known as nylon insert lock nuts or prevailing torque nuts, are a type of self-locking fastener. They are designed to resist loosening caused by vibration and shock. The key feature of these nuts is a nylon collar, typically located at the top of the nut. As the bolt is threaded through the nut, the nylon collar deforms and presses against the bolt threads. This creates friction, which prevents the nut from backing off under dynamic loads.

The nylon insert is usually made from a durable plastic material, such as nylon 66, which can withstand a range of temperatures and resist degradation from oils and solvents. The effectiveness of the locking mechanism is dependent on the interference between the nylon and the bolt threads. This interference is achieved by making the inner diameter of the nylon collar slightly smaller than the major diameter of the bolt thread.

Nyloninläggsmuttrar are available in various materials for the nut body, including steel, stainless steel, and brass, to suit different application requirements and environments. They are commonly used in automotive, industrial machinery, and construction applications where reliable fastening is crucial. Reusability of these nuts is limited; the nylon insert typically becomes compressed and less effective after several removals and reassemblies.
