Nyelcsrák

Nyelcsrák, also known as the common water boatman or water scorpion, is a small, semi-aquatic insect belonging to the family Corixidae. It is widely distributed across Europe, Asia, and North America, and can also be found in various freshwater habitats such as ponds, lakes, and slow-moving streams. The adult Nyelcsrák is easily recognizable by its elongated, segmented body, which is typically green or brown, and its large, triangular head with prominent, compound eyes. The most distinctive feature of the Nyelcsrák is its long, serrated rostrum, or "snout," which is used for grasping and manipulating prey.

The Nyelcsrák is an omnivorous predator, feeding on a variety of small aquatic organisms, including other insects, worms, and plant material. It is also known to consume small fish and even other Nyelcsráks. The insect's life cycle consists of four stages: egg, nymph, subimago, and adult. The nymphal stage is the most active, during which the Nyelcsrák spends most of its time in the water, feeding and growing. After a period of about 2-3 years, the nymph molts into a subimago, which then emerges from the water to undergo its final molt into an adult.

Nyelcsráks are important predators in their aquatic ecosystems, helping to control populations of smaller organisms and maintaining the balance of the food web. They are also of interest to entomologists and insect collectors due to their unique appearance and interesting behavior. Despite their small size, Nyelcsráks can be quite aggressive and will defend themselves vigorously if threatened.
