Nurmiin

Nurmiin is a town and municipality in the fictional region of Valara, located in the northern part of the country along the Nurm River. It serves as the administrative center of the Nurmiin municipality, which includes several nearby villages. The name derives from the local language and is commonly interpreted as related to water.

The municipality spans roughly 130 square kilometers and features mixed forests, meadows, and gentle hills. The Nurm River provides water resources and opportunities for small-scale milling and recreation.

Evidence of settlement dates to the medieval era, with a market charter granted in the 15th century. The town expanded after the arrival of a regional railway in the late 19th century and gained self-government in the early 20th.

As of 2020, Nurmiin had about 6,000 residents. The economy relies on agriculture, forestry, light manufacturing, and services, with tourism growing slowly due to the historic core and nearby nature areas.

The town center preserves a 17th-century stone church, a market square, and a small regional museum. Annual events include a midsummer festival and a winter crafts fair.

Nurmiin is served by a regional railway station and local roads. Public services include primary and secondary schools, a health clinic, and a municipal library.
