Nuhran

Nuhran is a fictional city-state frequently featured in speculative fiction and tabletop role-playing game settings. Set in the eastern coastal region of the fantasy continent of Eldara, Nuhran functions as a metropolitan hub with a long maritime tradition.

Geography and urban layout: The city sits at a natural harbor along the Serene Sea, with districts arranged around a crescent bay. Old Town preserves medieval walls, while Market Island houses guild halls and port facilities; River Quarter lies along the Nyrin River.

Nuhran's founders were seafaring clans who settled the harbor to control trade routes. It rose to prominence during the Hafnar era (circa 9th–12th centuries) as a commercial and cultural crossroads, enduring periodic conflicts with inland principalities and pirate leagues.

The government operates as a constitutional oligarchy led by a Lord Chancellor and a Council of Twelve Guilds, who oversee trade, law, and education. The ceremonial monarchy retains symbolic authority, while day-to-day governance rests with the council and magistrates.

Nuhran is a multilingual trading center where Nuhrani is the administrative language, with frequent use of maritime lingua franca among merchants. The economy emphasizes port services, shipbuilding, textiles, and spice trade. Cultural life centers on festivals, harbor schools, and the University of Nuhran.

Notable sites include the Great Harbor, the Clock Tower, and the Tide Market. The city hosts the annual Festival of Winds, drawing scholars, traders, and performers from across Eldara.
