Notocypraea

Notocypraea is a genus of small to medium-sized sea snails, specifically marine gastropod mollusks within the family Cypraeidae, commonly known as cowries. These shells are typically ovate or pyriform, with a narrow aperture running along the underside. The genus is characterized by its relatively small size compared to many other cowrie genera and its often colorful and patterned shell surfaces. Notocypraea species are found in the waters of Australia, particularly along the temperate southern and eastern coasts.

The shells of Notocypraea are smooth and glossy, often exhibiting intricate patterns of spots, lines, or blotches that serve as camouflage against their benthic habitats.
