Northgripian

Northgripian is a constructed language devised for the fictional Northgrip region on the northern continent of Norda. It forms part of an in-universe worldbuilding project and has no real-world community of speakers. In its official in-world description, Northgripian is an agglutinative language with a relatively flexible word order and a system of particles and affixes that mark grammatical relations, tense, aspect, mood, and evidentiality.

The language is described as having a moderate phoneme inventory with consonants and vowels that may exhibit vowel harmony. Orthography combines elements of an alphabet with diacritic marks to indicate phonetic differences, length, and stress. A stylized in-world script has been presented in some materials, though transliterations into Latin script are also provided for learners.

Northgripian materials appear in a range of worldbuilding media, including novels, tabletop role-playing games, and fan dictionaries. Community resources include glossaries, phrasebooks, and grammar sketches produced by fans and by the work's creators. The language is used primarily to convey cultural and regional identity in the fictional setting, rather than to serve as a practical language.
